Cinerama Cup Final - Part 3 (The final result!)
A reminder of the scores after the first two rounds:
112 Wow100 Health and Efficiency69 Your Charms39 And When She Was Bad
Health And Efficiency v Wow
Another 2-2 draw from me. Joanna, however, was firmly in the H&E camp:
H&E just got top spot for me, a wonderful combination of wistful strings and quality loud drums and much more interesting lyrically - it's got peach juice, lakes and shakes, even some old American guy banging on about his mum's 78's (all very evocative), whereas Wow, although an absolute banger (and always a favourite live), is ultimately just another iteration (albeit an excellent one) of familiar Gedge material - basically "I really fancy you but you should know that I've already got a girlfriend and I feel a bit guilty and you should be aware of that. Ah, f**k it."
And When She Was Bad v Your Charms
AWSWB's best performance, but - decent track as it is - it has lagged behind all the way through the final.
160 Wow
132 Health and Efficiency
117 Your Charms
71 And When She Was Bad
And so 'Wow' is crowned as the Cinerama Cup champion.
A predictable result in the end, perhaps - just as Dalliance's triumph in the TWP Cup was - but it's been a lot of fun getting to it. (Even if I remain furious about how early 'Crusoe' was so callously cast aside.)
Many thanks to all of the judges for their participation and frequently funny and thoughtful commentary. There has been some talk of a 'DLG Supercup' featuring the top-rated TWP and Cinerama songs, but whilst we might get to that at some point, I think we (and me in particular) need a bit of a break for now!
All the best, Steve
