Cinerama Cup: Last 32 (5-8)

The last 32: ties 5-8

5. Manhattan v Dance, Girl, Dance

'A cruel tie,' according to Keg, but not one that was especially close. DGD received no negative comments - Jona, for example, called it 'an almost perfect pop song' despite voting against it - and was simply unfortunate to come up against a song that is a favourite for many.

6. Ears v King's Cross

Once again, many who voted against the losing song still had kind words to say about it. One was John, who called 'Ears' 'a beautiful melody and lovely juxtaposed vocals hide a sorry tale of regret and jealousy.' It did receive a little criticism, though. Johnny believed that its 'only downside... is that Gedge didn’t bother to write a proper ending'; Marc thought that the song, 'just... meanders.' Chris found this a particularly tricky tie: 'What a difficult choice. I must have listened to Ears about ten times today thinking "how can I possibly vote this out?"'

7. And When She Was Bad v Because I'm Beautiful

One of our most one-sided contests so far. 'I love Because I’m Beautiful,' commented Gav M, 'no doubt it will lose though up against the more TWP-sounding And She Was Bad.' And he wasn't wrong.

8. Two Girls v Love

Some of the judges who tend to champion the more Cinerama-y end of the Cinerama back catalogue were worried about how 'Love' would fare here. Their concerns turned out to be unfounded. As such, we won't - for the time being at least - discover what the consequences of incurring Keg's displeasure might be: 'One of THE great Cinerama tracks. MUST go through here! Or else!'

  1. I was idly thinking about the Suddenly It's Tuesday Wedding Present ranking you produced a few years ago and wondered if you'd tackled a similar exercise for Cinerama. Lo and behold, I've stumbled upon the Cinerama Cup! I look forward to seeing how the tournament plays out. Keep up the good work!
