Cinerama Cup Final - Part 1

Our final four tracks are:

  • Health and Efficiency
  • And When She Was Bad
  • Your Charms
  • Wow

We are not going to have a traditional knock-out semi-final and final; instead, the panel are going to vote in a 'round robin' format. It will work like the group stage of the World Cup: each track will 'play' each of the other in three sets of matches. For each tie, the judges have three scoring options:
  • 4-0 (Clear-cut, no-brainer decision)
  • 3-1 (Some pause for thought before deciding the winner)
  • 2-2 (Unable to separate them)
N.B. I will post the results in three stages, but I won't begin until all of the panel have cast all of their votes, so as to avoid any temptation to vote 'tactically'. (I entered my own scores before any of the rest of the panel voted.)

Health And Efficiency v And When She Was Bad

By this stage, most of the panel were, understandably, a bit 'commented-out', so there's not going to be that much text in these final rounds. That said, Johnny did supply his usual heartfelt evaluation as he awarded H&E a 4-0 victory:

'My votes in these final draws suggest that I don’t much like ‘And when she was bad’, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I get on with it famously, it’s full of vigour and verve and will, without fail have me slamming my way around the living room disturbing the neighbours and knocking the clock off the mantlepiece.

However, Health and Efficiency is just so simply pure, so effortlessly majestic, so wholly Cinerama - through and through that I have to throw my points that way. Am I inclined to place my votes with one eye on how I think that the masses will cast theirs? maybe, would that be disingenuous? No, I honestly do have an enormous amount of love for H&E, and it is head and shoulders above here.'

Several judges suggested that AWSWB was a bit lucky to be here ('has led a charmed tournament,' commented Gav M) and so this one-sided result was no surprise.

Your Charms v Wow

'Your Charms is a bit lightweight in this esteemed company,' thought Joanna. Johnny disagreed: 'Wow will get the popular vote, bit it isn’t a patch on Your Charms; it’s where we are in this post Trump world.' Not for the first time, Johnny found himself in the minority on this one.
